JACKSON, Tenn. – Missouri S&T Men's Soccer lost their first game of the season 1-0 after wet grounds ended the game early at Union.
The Miners and Bulldogs went scoreless in the first half as they went into the locker room tied 0-0. An early
Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) shot in the 22
nd minute was saved by Union goalkeeper Tommy Scahill. In the 34
th minute,
Mike Banasik's (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) shot was saved by Scahill as both teams remained scoreless.
After halftime,
Julian Arsaether (Bergen, Norway/Asane Videregaende Skole) recorded a shot on goal in the 58
th minute but Scahill saved his third shot of the game. Union took a 1-0 lead in the 64
th minute as Diego Medina netted a goal, his third in as many games. The last S&T shot on goal came in the 74
th minute after
Grant Polman's (Wentzville, MO/Holt) shot was saved.
With 11:36 left in the game, the game was called with deteriorating field conditions due to rain this week.
Goalkeeper
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) allowed just his second goal of the season as he saved three shots. The Miners and Bulldogs both had 10 shots and four shots on goal.
Owen Verning (Collinsville, IL/Maryville Christian) tallied two shots. Banasik and Vieira each had two shots and one shot on goal. The Miners dropped to 2-1.
What's Next
Missouri S&T comes back home on Sunday to open the GLVC season against Lincoln. It will be the two teams first match since 2001. Tickets to the game can be purchased here.
