ROLLA, Mo. -- The 2024 season has arrived, and the Miners will host Pitt State first with a 12pm match tomorrow, followed by another 12pm home match on Sunday against Delta State.
Match 1: Pitt State Gorillas @ Missouri S&T, Tomorrow at 12pm
The Gorillas are beginning their inaugural season for women's soccer under the leadership of former Oral Roberts Assistant Coach Wes Bransetter. Twenty-two of the thirty-seven members of their roster are freshman, but eight transfer students should help bring some experience to the squad. Among the transfers are a pair of former Division I athletes, with Dylan Ehegartner coming from Drake University and Avianna Gonzalez transferring from the University of New Mexico.
Match 2: Delta State Statesmen @ Missouri S&T, Sunday at 12pm
This will be the third meeting between the Miners and the Statesmen, with neither team recording a win in the previous two matches to make the all-time series record 0-0-2. This will be the first time that the Miners have hosted Delta State in the history of the series.
The most recent match was last season on September 1st, which ended in a 1-1 tie.
Amelia Mundo (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) scored the goal for the Miners in the last meeting, but she transferred to Eastern Illinois this off-season. Meanwhile, Delta State's goal-scorer from the last meeting, Jae'lasha Julien, will be returning for the Statesmen. The Miners only took four shots last meeting, with
Haylee Prime (Lewis Center, OH/Olentangy Orange) being the only returner to record one in that match.
Delta State went 4-12-2 last season, with 7 of those losses coming on the road. The Statesmen lost two key players from their 2023 team to graduation in Poppy Derhun and Carra Hymel. Derhun was the Statesmen's shots leader last year with 29, 10 of which were on goal, while Hymel was a consistent performer for the team in the midfield.
