ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Men's Soccer drew with Missouri-St. Louis 1-1 on Sunday afternoon at Creve Coeur Soccer Park.
The two teams were tied after the first half but had their chances throughout the first 45 minutes.
Luiz Bernis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio) hit one off the right post in the eighth minute of the game. In the 20
th minute, Bernis was saved by goalkeeper Austin Reis. Midway through the half, Reis denied
Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) twice in the span of 32 seconds.
Daylan Frerker (Collinsvillle, IL/Collinsville) was also saved near the end of the half as both teams went scoreless into the locker room.
Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) and
Alexander Burum (Oslo, Norway/Valle Hovin Vgs) were both saved by Reis early in the second half. After
Mike Banasik (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) was stopped in the 71
st minute, UMSL took a 1-0 lead in the 76
th minute from Linus Saewe. Just 32 seconds later, Burum put one in the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.
Grant Polman (Wentzville, MO/Holt) tallied the assist, his first of the year. The Miners and Tritons ended the match in a draw.
Vieira had three total shots and two shots on goal. Burum, Giesing and Bernis all had two shots. In total, S&T had 14 shots and nine shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) made four saves with one goal allowed. Bruhn has started all eight games for S&T and has only had four goals go in. He has made 22 saves and has a .846 save percentage.
With the win, the Miners are 5-1-2 overall with a 2-0-2 GLVC record. They sit alone in fourth place, one point behind Maryville.
