ROLLA, Mo. -- The Miners are playing the third and final match of this homestand, hosting Lincoln of Missouri in their first Great Lakes Valley Conference competition of the season.
About the Blue Tigers:
The Blue Tigers enter Sunday's match undefeated, taking down Minnesota Crookston, Sioux Falls, and William Woods this year. They have only given up 1 goal, winning their matches 1-0, 1-0, and 2-1.
Senior Ivanna Faria leads the Blue Tigers in goals this season with 2 scored on 5 shots. In goal, Kanon Dehama, a junior from Nagoya, Japan, has recorded 12 saves and only 1 goal allowed this season for a save percentage of 92.3%.
About the Miners:
The Miners are 0-2 so far, with their most recent loss coming on Sunday against Delta State. They have had three goal-scorers this season, with
Ava Hoenes (Columbia, MO/Hickman),
Ella Kramer (Liberty, MO/Liberty North), and
Jenna Marti (Sammamish, WA/Eastside Catholic) all recording a goal.
Coach Matthew Perry has tested the waters at the goalie position so far this season, going with
Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) for the first match and
Kristin Oliver (Monroe, NC/Piedmont) for the second.
The Miners have shown that they are capable of dominating possession of the ball and controlling tempo of play, doing so a few times in the Pitt State match and for most of the first half against Delta State. If S&T can maintain that same intensity for a longer period of time against Lincoln, they should grab their first win of the season.
What's Next:
Missouri S&T's begins a four-game road series that will last until October, beginning with Missouri Western on Thursday at 5pm.
