ROLLA, Mo. – The Miners host their first game of the season this Saturday, with a matchup against Lincoln of California that is set to begin at 6pm.
Series History
This will be the first meeting between the Miners and the Oaklanders. Lincoln of California is a relatively new program that started in 2021. The Miners have only faced one school from California prior to this matchup, defeating Azusa Pacific 51-17 in 2019.
About the Oaklanders
Lincoln is 0-3 through their first three games of the season, falling to the College of Idaho, Northern Arizona, and Southern Oregon in past weeks. The Oaklanders have been outscored 157-20 so far this season, with their worst loss coming against Northern Arizona in a 66-6 rout.
LU's starting quarterback is Jack Clavel, a junior from Spokane, Washington. Clavel is 27 of 53 this year for 229 yards, 1 touchdown, 3 interceptions, and 6 sacks.
About the Miners
S&T has suffered a pair of difficult losses so far this season, falling to 0-2 to start the year. The Miners most recent loss came last week against Delta State by a score of 18-55. Despite the offensive struggles in the second half against Delta State,
AJ Harris (Wentzville, MO/Lutheran-St. Charles) and
CJ Wiggins (Yuma, AZ/Gila Ridge) both put up impressive numbers, with Harris carrying 29 times for 131 yards and 2 TDs and Wiggins grabbing 10 receptions for 106 yards.
The Miners have moved the ball well at times this season, averaging 370.5 yards in total offense and outgaining opponents 46 to 45 in first downs. Penalties have been an issue though, as the team has committed 11 for 104 yards in the first two games, several of which came at inopportune times.
What's Next
Missouri S&T has two more home games before they hit the road again, with next week's game against Quincy starting this season's conference slate.
