ROLLA, Mo. –
Bryan Howard, who led Missouri S&T's softball team to its first conference championship in program history and its second berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament in the 2024 season, is resigning as the head coach of the Miners to accept a similar position at Cameron University.
In his second season at the helm, Howard guided the Miners on an unprecedented run to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship in May, as S&T won the event as the seventh seed with wins over each of the top four seeds in the tournament. The Miners capped their historic run with an extra inning win over Indianapolis – the nation's top-ranked team – to earn the GLVC's automatic bid to the NCAA Midwest Regional.
"We thank Coach Howard for the two years he coached the Miners," said Missouri S&T Director of Athletics Melissa Ringhausen. "He initiated many positive changes in the softball program, leaving our future head coach with a young and talented roster that is more than ready to build off this past season's success and compete for championships. We wish Bryan the best of luck in his future endeavors."
Missouri S&T won 27 games during the 2024 campaign, the most wins for the Miners since 2017, as it made its first regional appearance since 2007. The Miners also finished at 13-13 in the GLVC, their best record in terms of percentage since that 2017 season and had three players earn All-GLVC honors and one,
Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury), named to two All-Midwest region teams.
A nationwide search will begin immediately to fill the position.
