Kent Breaks S&T Season Three-Point Record in Loss to Cardinals

LIBERTY, Mo.  –  In a 66-79 loss to William Jewell today, Kent hit another 5 three-pointers, pushing her season total to 74 and breaking S&T's record for most threes in a single season.

1st Quarter:
Both teams shot cold at the onset, with neither one scoring for the first two and a half minutes. The Cardinals scored first off a free throw, going ahead 1-0, but that would be their only lead of the quarter. A successful "and one" from Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) gave the Miners 3-1 lead less than a minute later. The Cardinals would tie the score twice in the following minutes before the Miners took their largest lead of the quarter at 10-7. William Jewell would respond though, outscoring the Miners 5-2 in the last two minutes of the quarter to tie the game at 12-12.

2nd Quarter:
The Miners would retake the lead in the first few seconds of the quarter off a three from Eryn Puett (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge). The Cardinals answered with a 14-5 run in the next few minutes, taking a six point lead. The teams exchanged threes, bringing the score to 26-32, before they both hit a two minute scoring drought late in the second. Roberts and Morgan Luebbering (Jefferson Ciy, MO/Fatima) would each score in the closing minutes of the first half, helping the Miners cut the deficit to three before halftime.

3rd Quarter:
The Miners did not waste any time in the third, tying the game at 33-33 less than a minute in. The third quarter would prove to be the tightest of the game, with the teams matching each other shot for shot as there were 14 lead changes and 7 ties in the quarter. The Cardinals found the slightest edge off a successful "and one" to close the quarter that gave them a 56-55 lead over S&T.

4th Quarter:
With four lead changes in the opening 2 minutes, the fourth quarter looked like it would be similar to the third. That would not be the case though, as the Cardinals went on a 17-2 run to take a fourteen point lead with less than three minutes left. The Miners were never able to put a significant dent in that deficit and would go on to lose 66-79.

Four Miners ended the day in double digits. Roberts led the way with 18, followed by Puett (17), Kent (15), and Luebbering (10). Puett was efficient in what will probably be her final game as a Miner, shooting 70% from the field and 60% from the three.

The Miners end the season 12th in the GLVC with an 8-22 record and did not qualify for the this year's conference championship tournament.
