Women's Basketball traveling to St. Louis to Face Maryville on Saturday

2/8/2024 8:30:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – After hosting two games last week, the Miners will travel to St. Louis to play Maryville this Saturday at 1 p.m. in the first of three straight road games. The Miners suffered a pair of close losses last week against Indianapolis and Lewis, losing 70-71 and 63-72 respectively, dropping their current record to 6-17 overall with a conference record of 3-12.

The last time that S&T faced Maryville was earlier this season on December 9th in Gibson Arena. The Miners lost that game 60-79 due to a poor first half. They outplayed the visitors in the second half though, outscoring the Saints 42-35 and shooting 42.5% from the field.

All eyes will be on Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) as she has scored in double figures for 22 straight games, putting up 19 against UIndy and 11 against Lewis last week. Her 17.3 points per game ranks her fifth in the GLVC. She is also second in field goal percentage (.560) and third in blocked shots (33 total).

The Miners have been shooting better since the winter break, with five of their six highest shooting percentage games of the season coming in the last month. A low first half shooting percentage played a big role in the Miners' previous loss to Maryville, so the recent improvement could be vital to Saturday's game. It should be noted that S&T is 6-1 this season when out-shooting an opponent.

ABOUT MARYVILLE: The Saints enter Saturday's game fourth in GLVC standings after a 55-80 loss at home against Indianapolis on February 3rd. That loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Saints that started on January 13th against Southwest Baptist.

Scoring for Maryville has been led by Graduate Student Carsyn Fearday who is averaging 14.2 points per game this season. Fearday has scored in double digits the last eight straight games and scored 20 against the Miners the last time they played. Graduate Student Karlee Feldman is another player to watch, as she ranks second in the GLVC for rebounds, averaging 9.5 per game.
