ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Men's Volleyball will host Lindenwood, Talladega, and Central State in Gibson Arena this week. The Miners look to add some wins to their season total after dropping their last match at McKendree on Saturday evening.
Prior to the loss at McKendree, the Miners had split their previous two games of the week. The first was a loss at Quincy and the second a 3-2 victory over Saint Xavier at home. S&T enters this week with a 4-4 record and hope to end the week above .500.
Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) and
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) continue to headline the Miners offense through the first eight games with 103 and 97 kills respectively.
Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) is also tied for 14th in NCAA Division 1 volleyball with 7.72 attacks per set.
The Miners have been strong defensively this season, with the teams' 23 solo blocks tied for the third best among teams in Division 1 volleyball. Meanwhile,
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) is tied for 4
th most in individual solo blocks this season with six.
About the Opponents:
The Miners first match of the week will be in Gibson Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Lindenwood Lions. They are coming off a loss on Sunday against the #6 Ohio State Buckeyes in which they lost 1-3. The Lions are tied for first in Division 1 in both kills per set with 12.89 and in assists per set with 12.25. The Miners blocking success could prove to be a key part of the matchup on Wednesday.
The match against the Talladega College Tornadoes will be Friday night at 7 p.m. in Gibson Arena. Talladega is an NAIA college in their inaugural season of men's volleyball. They enter Friday's match with a 2-5 record and 0-1 against NCAA opponents. Their previous match was against Edward Waters College; a match that they lost in straight sets.
The final match of this week will be against the Central State Marauders on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Gibson Arena. The Marauders are 0-10 on this season having only face NCAA opponents. Their most recent match was a 0-3 loss to the University of Charleston on February 3rd.
