Miners continue road trip with visit to Truman State

2/16/2024 12:00:00 PM

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  –  Coming off a 66-64 win at Upper Iowa yesterday, the Miners will face Truman State University tomorrow at 1 p.m. Truman lost to Maryville University last night, 65-79, in a game where they allowed five opponents to score in double digits.

The Miners two-point victory over the Peacocks last night was a roller coaster of a game, with five lead changes in the fourth quarter. Eryn Puett (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge), Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy), and Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) all scored in double digits with 21, 14, and 11 respectively.

About the Opponents:
Truman State is 6-17 this year, with a conference record of 3-14. One of the Bulldogs' biggest weaknesses this season has been turnovers. They have the worst turnover margin in the GLVC at -4.83 and are averaging a conference-worst 18.1 turnovers per game. They have made the most of the time that they do possess the ball though, shooting at 42.5%, which is fifth best in the conference.

Graduate Student Ellie Weltha is Truman's leading scorer and tied for the seventh best in GLVC scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game. She is also tied for third in the conference for rebounds (9.0 per game) and second in field goal percentage (55.6%). Like Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville), Weltha's strength is getting opportunities close to the basket, so the Miners could control the game if they win the paint.

The last time that the Miners and Bulldogs faced off was January 19th, 2023. Truman hosted and won the game 86-63 as they outscored the Miners 47-27 in the second half. The Bulldogs are on a twelve game winning streak against S&T, having not lost a game since 2006.
