Season Opener on Sunday in Terre Haute

11/8/2024 5:45:00 PM

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  --  Basketball season is back and the Miners are starting things off with a neutral site game against Ohio Dominican on the campus of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Series History
The Miners and Panthers have only met once, with Missouri S&T taking that game back in 1972 in a 81-56 neutral-site blowout victory.

About the Panthers
Ohio Dominican is coming off a rough 2023-24 campaign in which they went 5-22 overall and finished last in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference with a 2-18 in-conference record. The Panthers played a couple of Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents at the Midwest Crossover last season, falling to both Lewis University and McKendree University.

The Panthers were picked 10th out of twelves teams in the preseason GMAC rankings. The team has experienced significant turnover from last year, only returning four players while welcoming five freshman and six transfers. Among ODU's transfers is a familiar face to the Miners in Ibrahim Drame. Drame played and started for the Quincy Hawks in last years' game between the two teams. While Drame started, the Miners held him to 8 points in 17 minutes played as they defeated the Hawks 87-67.

About the Miners
The Miners will enter their season opener after a pair of tune-up games against Tulsa and Southern Illinois. The Miners showed promise in last week's exhibition against Tulsa, nearly defeating the Hurricanes in regulation before coming up short in overtime. The game against Southern Illinois has yet to be played and is schedule for 7 p.m. tonight.
