ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball kicks off their season on Tuesday night as they take on Missouri Southern at 5:30 p.m.
Series History
The Miners are 10-37 all-time versus the Lions. Their last matchup came in 2022 where Missouri Southern won 74-50. In Joplin, Missouri, the Lions are 21-3.
About the Lions
Missouri Southern has already played in four games this season and have lost three of them. They started out the season 0-3 as they lost to Texas Woman's, Ashland and Concordia-St. Paul this past week. They picked up their first season win against Henderson State on Saturday afternoon 75-47.
Through four contests, Kaitlin Hunnicut leads the Lions with 17.8 points per game. The Redshirt Senior put up 28 points on 7-14 shooting against Concordia-St. Paul. Ryan Franklin leads on the glass with 9.5 rebounds per game. The Lions are coming off a 20-9 season where they clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament. They were picked to finish fourth in the MIAA this season.
About the Miners
S&T is ready for their first game of the 2024-25 season at Missouri Southern. Against the Lions during the 2022-23 season,
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) picked up 14 points for the Miners. S&T also played Missouri Southern in the 2021-22 season.
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) collected 11 points and five rebounds in that 50-74 loss.
The Miners are coming off an 8-22 season in 2023-24 with a 5-17 GLVC record. In the GLVC Preseason Poll, S&T was picked to finish in 12
th place this season. Roberts was named to the All-GLVC Third Team last season after she averaged 16.4 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game with 43 blocks. In the offseason, S&T lost three players but added four freshmen. This game is the third straight season that the Miners start the year on the road.
