ROLLA, Mo. -- The Miners opened up their 2024-25 season tonight with a meet against the Drury Panthers. The Miners swam well but ultimately came up short, falling to Panthers 142-63.
The Miners opened up the dual meet with a 400 yard medley relay, that saw the Panthers take three of the top four spots with the Miners' A team taking second. The second was a distance event with a 1000 yard freestyle that saw
Kevin Williams (Houston, TX/Westside) set a personal best with a time of 10:04.18.
S&T took their first individual win in event 3, with
Adam Wiedemeier's (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) time of 1:43.12 earning him first place.
Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium) and
John Cottrell (Fort Madison, IA/Fort Madison) would take third in the 50 free and the 200 fly respectively, while
Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) took second in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 1:53.66.
Wiedemeier would continue his successful night with a second place finish in the 100 free, finishing just three hundredeths of a second behind first place. The Panthers would claim the top three spots in the 200 back, the 500 free, and the 400 free relay to help solidify their lead.
Bichsel earned the Miners only other individual win of the night in the second to last event, taking first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:08.24.
JP McCann (Houston, TX/Westside) would be close behind, taking third place in for S&T.

The Miners will host William Jewell at 5pm on Friday in their second meet of the season
