LIBERTY, Mo. – Missouri S&T Men's Soccer fell 2-3 to William Jewell after the Cardinals put up three unanswered goals.
The Miners came out firing in the first half as
Mike Banasik (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) pushed across his fourth goal of the season in the 30
th minute. That was the only shot on goal for S&T in the first half as goalkeeper
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) made two saves.
With a 1-0 lead after the first half, S&T extended their lead in the 67
th minute.
Joseph Sommer (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) scored his first goal of the 2024 season off the bench. Just four minutes later, the Cardinals got back within one after Zach Nichols scored his sixth goal of the year. Sage Smotherman tied the match in the 76
th minute and gave William Jewell a 3-2 lead in the 82
nd minute. That goal held until the final whistle.
Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College),
Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) and
Nathan Weyrauch (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) all recorded two shots. Vieira, Banasik, Weyrauch and Sommer each had one shot on goal. Bruhn made three saves on William Jewell's six shots on goal.
In total, the Miners and Cardinals each had eight total shots, while William Jewell had six shots on goal to S&T's four.
S&T remains in sixth place in the GLVC after the loss. They are two points behind Illinois Springfield with a tie in sixth with Drury.
What's Next
Missouri S&T will be back in action on Sunday afternoon at Truman State at 2:30 p.m. They will come back home for their final regular season homestand of 2024 to play Southwest Baptist on Nov. 1 and Rockhurst on Nov. 3.
