Women's Volleyball Head East to Midwest Region Crossover

10/16/2024 4:00:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Volleyball is set for the Midwest Region Crossover this weekend against three opponents in two days.

Match 1: Missouri S&T (4-12, 2-4 GLVC) vs. Purdue Northwest (4-11, 2-6 GLIAC) Oct. 18 at 11:30 a.m.

The Lions come into this match with a similar record to the Miners with four overall wins and two conference wins. They are coming off a 1-1 weekend after they took down Wayne State 3-1 but fell to #15 Grand Valley State 1-3. The only similar opponents these two teams have is Illinois Springfield when Purdue Northwest fell 0-3 on Sept. 6.

Ana Cottrell currently leads the team with 3.27 kills per set and 3.72 points per set. Defensively, Livia Thomsen has 3.98 digs per set and Kennedy Rowzee has picked up 45 total blocks this season. In their all-time matchup, the Miners lead 1-0 with their only match in 2021. In that 3-0 win, Jordan Burton (Olathe, KS/Olathe South) tallied 14 kills and a .440 hitting percentage.

Match 2: Missouri S&T (4-12, 2-4 GLVC) vs. Cedarville (7-6, 4-3 G-MAC) Oct. 18 at 4:30 p.m.

Cedarville is coming off a successful week after a 3-0 win at Thomas More and 3-1 victory versus Kentucky Wesleyan. They hold an above .500 record heading into the crossover in both their overall and G-MAC records. These two teams have not had a similar opponent going into the weekend.

Offensively, Madelyn Hensley leads the Yellow Jackets with 3.92 kills per set and 4.20 points per set. Haley Koch and Janae Heegaard have a combined 90 blocks in 2024. These two teams have met two times in their history resulting in two Miners victories. At the Midwest Region Crossover last season, the Miners won 3-1. Burton picked up 10 kills in that match and Alina Carrillo (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) had nine.

Match 3: Missouri S&T (4-12, 2-4 GLVC) vs. Thomas More (9-9, 4-5 G-MAC) Oct. 19 at 4:30 p.m.

The Saints come into the weekend on a five-match loss streak after they started out the G-MAC slate 4-0. In their last five matches, they have won just two sets. Illinois Springfield defeated Thomas More on Sept. 14 in a five-set thriller as that was the only opponent these two teams have played.

Ebony Gomez leads Thomas More with 3.47 kills per set and 198 total kills. Asia Ferrando is on top of the team with 4.81 digs per set. Matilde Giamberini's 1.22 blocks per set leads the Saints. This match will be the first ever between the Miners and Saints in their history.
