ROMEOVILLE, Ill. & INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Coming off a 2-1 upset of the #23 team in the country on Sunday, the Miners hope to use the momentum from that win to carry them to victories over Lewis and Indianapolis this week.
About the Flyers:
The Flyers are 1-7-1 this season, with a 1-5 conference record with their only win coming last week against Southwest Baptist. The Flyers have struggled on both ends of the field this season, only scoring six goals and giving up fifteen, leading to four shutout losses.
Junior forward Breanna Culver is the team's standout contributor thus far this season, leading the team in both goals scored and points with 4 and 9, respectively. The Flyers' scoring struggles have not been due to a lack of opportunities, as they are eighth in the conference for shots taken with 107 this season.
About the Greyhounds:
Indianapolis is currently ranked sixth in the conference, with a 4-2-1 conference record and a 5-4-1 overall record. The Greyhounds' most recent match came against the winless Southwest Baptist Bearcats, a match that they surprisingly only won by a single goal.
The Greyhounds have four players with multiple goals, with sophomore forward Mia Winters leading the team with 6 goals, ranking her eighth in the conference for goals scored per match. Junior Antiya Sidibe is tied for the second most assists in the GLVC and leads the team in the category with five.
About the Miners:
The Miners won their second match of the season on Sunday, defeating the McKendree Bearcats 2-1. The Bearcats were ranked #23 in the country heading into the match, making it the Miners first victory against a nationally ranked team since 2009.
The Miners faced 8 shots on goal against McKendree, with
Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) making seven saves including two critical stops with less than six minutes left in the match. Barcom now has the second-most saves in the conference with 49 in eight matches.
What's Next:
The Miners will host the Quincy Hawks and the Upper Iowa Peacocks on October 18th and October 20th, respectively.
