ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team had a dominant performance in its final home and regular season meet Saturday afternoon, winning nine of the 11 events to defeat Truman State 176-66 at the S&T Pool.
The Miners got two event wins from
Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium), who won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.18 seconds and 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.62, while S&T also had winning performances on an individual basis from
Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:05.42,
Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:52.32,
Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.89 seconds,
Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:54.83 and
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton) in the 200-yard breaststroke with his mark of 2:06.09.
The Miners also won the 400-yard medley relay in 3:22.98 behind the team of Walters, Clancy,
Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) and Wiedemeier and 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of
Oskar Fridsell (Solna, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium),
Kevin Williams (Houston, TX/Westside),
Greg Dreisewerd (Ellisville, MO/MICDS) and Iden won in a time of 3:13.86.
Williams took second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.91, as did Clancy in the 50-freestyle in 21.49 seconds, Baxter in the 200-IM in 1:58.73 and 100-freestyle in 48.16,
Jay Mercer (Kansas City, MO/Whitefield Academy) in the 200-butterfly in 1:57.59, Fridsell in the 200-backstroke in 1:56.79 and Melinder in the 500-freestyle in 4:58.88. The Miners also got a second place finish from its second 400-medley relay team of
Cameron McCrary (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West),
Jordan Christensen (Coralville, IA/Iowa West), Bichsel and
Eli Wetzel (Springdale, AR/Don Tyson School of Innovation) in 3:36.34.
Third place finishes came courtesy of
Lane Werth (Wichita, KS/Wichita North) in the 200-freestyle in 1:51.05, Walters in the 50-freestyle in 21.89 seconds, Jake Hale in the 200-IM in 2:02.64, Christensen in the 100-free in 48.88 seconds and Dreisewerd in the 200-backstroke in 2:00.89. S&T had a third place showing with its other 400-free relay team that consisted of Melinder,
Giorgio Panci (Rome, Italy/Liceo Scientifico), Mercer and
JP McCann (Houston, TX/Westside) as it posted a time of 3:23.55.
Saturday's meet was the final home meet for five S&T seniors – Baxter, Clancy, Melinder, Mercer and Walters.
Missouri S&T will begin competition at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships on Feb. 6 in Evansville, Ind.
