ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team dominated matters Wednesday night as it won the first of its two dual meets of the week at the S&T Pool, defeating Quincy by a count of 166-72 in a meet that had been rescheduled from Monday.
The Miners won 10 of the 11 events on Wednesday – Quincy's only win came in the 200-yard freestyle relay to close the evening – and took the top three spots in four of the 10 events they won.
S&T recorded sweeps of the top three positions in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke, both won by
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton) with times of 50.15 seconds and 56.47 seconds, respectively; the 50-yard freestyle, led by
Nate Baxter's (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) win in 21.05 seconds and 100-yard butterfly that was won by
Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium) in 50.12 seconds.
Other wins on Wednesday came from
Kevin Williams (Houston, TX/Westside) in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:20.83,
Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.93,
Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:09.71,
Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.57 seconds and
Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) in the 500-yard freestyle as he won in 4:51.91
The 200-yard medley relay team of
Oskar Fridsell (Solna, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium),
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton), Iden and Baxter won that event in 1:32.08.
S&T got second place showings from
Cameron McCrary (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) in the 200-freestyle in 1:49.46, Iden in the 50-free in 21.79 seconds, Baxter in the 100-butterfly in 50.78 seconds, Walters in the 100-back in 52.12, Williams in the 500-freestyle in 5:04.50 and Bichsel in the 100-breaststroke, where he finished in 58.72 seconds.
S&T's 200-freestyle relay team consisting of Wiedemeier, Williams,
Eli Wetzel (Springdale, AR/Don Tyson School of Innovation) and Walters placed second in 1:26.63.
Wiedemeier was third in the 50-freestyle in 21.80 seconds, as was Melinder in the 400-IM in 4:16.95,
Jordan Christensen (Coralville, IA/Iowa West) in the 100-butterfly in 51.91 seconds and 100-breaststroke in 58.91 seconds and McCrary in the 100-backstroke in 52.16 seconds.
S&T's second 200-medley relay team, consisting of McCrary, Christensen,
Greg Dreisewerd (Ellisville, MO/MICDS) and Bichsel, finished third with a time of 1:36.13.
Missouri S&T will host Truman State to close out the regular season Saturday at 1 p.m.
