S&T to face Hawks, Cardinals on weekend journey to Kansas City

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team hits the road to the Kansas City area for two Great Lakes Valley Conference matches, as the Miners will take on Rockhurst and William Jewell seeking their first win away from home this season.

The Miners, 2-2-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the GLVC, earned their first conference win of the campaign last Friday with a 3-0 victory over Southwest Baptist before playing to a scoreless tie against league leader Drury on Sunday.  Missouri S&T got a shutout from Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) in goal in the win over SBU, then Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) made eight saves Sunday as she blanked the Panthers to close the weekend.

Amelia Mundo (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) got S&T on the board in the SBU game with her team-leading third goal of the season and then assisted on Beth Roberts' (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) second tally of the year in the second half.  Ava Hoenes (Columbia, MO/Hickman) scored the third goal for the Miners as she got on the board for the first time this season.

Mundo has seven points to lead the Miners in scoring and Roberts has recorded six points.

Barcom has seen the majority of the action in goal – 315 minutes – and has a 0.86 goals against average with 16 saves.  Natalie Newman (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) has played 225 minutes with a 1.60 goals against average and 10 saves, while Johnson had the eight stops in her 90 minutes of play Sunday as she recorded the Miners' second shutout of the year.

ABOUT ROCKHURST: The Hawks are 3-3-2 on the year and 1-2-1 in conference play, but are winless without a goal in their last three contests after shutting out nationally-ranked McKendree in their GLVC opener on Sept. 15.  Anna Lantz leads Rockhurst in scoring with two goals and three assists for seven points – she shares the GLVC lead in assists – while Gabby Hennessy has also scored twice this season.  Taylor James has four shutouts in eight games and possesses a 0.63 goals against average in 720 minutes.

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL: Following losses last week to Lewis and Indianapolis, the Cardinals enter the weekend at 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the GLVC.  Jewell lost a 4-2 decision at Lewis – getting goals from Anea Bemo and Anya Linstrom to take a 2-1 lead in the first half -- before being shut out at UIndy on Sunday. Bemo has a goal and an assist to lead the Cardinals in scoring, while Kate Lawrence has two assists.  In goal, Jenna Skeeters has a 2.99 goals against average and 38 saves in 511 minutes of action.
