Miners battle to scoreless tie with Hillcats to open campaign

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Missouri S&T and Rogers State battled for 90 minutes in the season opener for both teams Friday night and came out of the game without a tally as the teams played to a scoreless tie.

Rogers State had an 11-4 advantage in shots in the first half, but S&T goalkeeper Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) was up to the task as he turned all six that were on goal.  By game's end, the shot margin was 20-9 in the Hillcats' favor and Joseph made two more saves over the final 45 minutes to record his shutout.

S&T had a couple of good scoring chances in the final moments of play, but Hillcat goalkeeper Declan Viljoen turned away tries by Connor Hui (Markham, ON/Bill Crothers) and Derek Schlenker (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton) prior to an attempt by Sam Bresette (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) in the final minute that was low to the ground but stopped.

Robert Suellentrop (Fenton, MO/Rockwood Summit) and Mustafa Hasan (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) had two shots apiece for the Miners in the contest.

Missouri S&T wraps up its opening weekend road trip Sunday when it faces Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla.  Sunday's contest gets underway at 1 p.m.
