ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T matched its record number of its student-athletes that have earned a spot on the Great Lakes Valley Conference's academic honor roll for the 2022-23 season, as a total of 269 student-athletes earned the honor for their work in the classroom during the past year.
The 269 honorees – the same number that S&T had a year ago -- were part of a group totaling 3,384 student-athletes from the 13 GLVC member institutions and affiliate members of the conference in men's and women's lacrosse, wrestling and women's bowling. The six associate members accounted for 56 of the selections, meaning 3,328 were named from the 13 institutions that compete on a full-time basis in the GLVC. The average of 256 per GLVC school is the second-largest average of all-time.
Four of S&T's athletic teams had at 20 individuals named, led by the football team with 51 of its members named and the men's track & field team – winners of the GLVC indoor and outdoor championships in the past year – having 37 representatives. S&T's baseball team was represented by 24 student-athletes, while this year's All-Academic team also included 21 from the men's soccer team and 20 from the women's track & field team.
The 51 S&T football players make up just over one-fifth of the total of 249 football players league-wide on the All-Academic team, while the 37 from the men's track & field team is nearly 20 percent of the overall total of 187.
A total of 11 Miner teams had at least 10 individuals land a spot on the All-Academic team and seven of those 11 had at least 15 members. It included 19 student-athletes from the women's soccer team, 16 from the men's cross country team and 14 student-athletes from the softball team. It also includes 13 members from the women's basketball, women's volleyball and swimming teams, 10 from the women's cross country squad and nine each from the men's basketball and golf programs.
Each of Missouri S&T's athletic teams had representatives selected to the All-Academic team, which were awarded to all student-athletes with a 3.3 of better grade point average for the past school year with at least two semesters of an academic year at the institution.
