3/23/2023 9:46:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – After splitting its four games during the opening weekend of Great Lakes Valley Conference action, Missouri S&T's softball team heads to the Kansas City area for a pair of doubleheaders as part of a six-game road swing that will also take it to Central Missouri early next week.

The Miners will face Rockhurst Saturday in a noon doubleheader in Kansas City -- games that will be played at Avila University -- then head out to the suburbs for a Sunday twinbill at William Jewell that will also begin at noon.  S&T will then go outside of the GLVC on Tuesday as it takes on Central Missouri in a 2 p.m. doubleheader in Warrensburg, Mo., before returning to the home turf during the first weekend of April.

S&T dropped its first two conference games at Quincy on Sunday, but rebounded with a doubleheader sweep over Truman State on Monday to even its GLVC mark at 2-2 and move to 10-12 overall on the year.  The Miners got a good day from Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury) both at the plate and in the circle on Monday, as she went four-of-eight with a run batted in during the afternoon while also throwing an eight-inning complete game in the nightcap and retiring the final 13 hitters.

Wooldridge leads the Miners with a .377 batting average on the season, while Emma Vaughn (Pevely, Mo./Herculaneum) is batting .367 on the year.  Elizabeth Viox (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) is also over the .300 mark for the season at .333 and leads S&T with six stolen bases, while Shannon Flowers (Katy, Texas/Katy) leads the Miners with three home runs.  Flowers has also driven in 10 runs, second to Hannah Antzoulatos' (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) 12 RBI on the year.

In the circle, Wooldridge has a 5-6 record and 3.32 earned run average, while Julia Kanoy (Hamilton, Mo./Penney) has a 3.66 ERA to go with her 3-3 record.  Kanoy, who got the win in the opening game of Monday's doubleheader, has struck out 58 hitters in 49 2/3 innings which ranks fifth in the GLVC through play on Tuesday.

ABOUT ROCKHURST: The Hawks opened their GLVC schedule Sunday with a doubleheader sweep at Southwest Baptist and have won four of their last six games after opening the season at 3-10.  Rockhurst split a doubleheader Wednesday at Missouri Western and will bring a 7-10 record into the Miners' visit on Saturday afternoon.

Gwen Bostick leads the Hawks with a .328 batting average, while Jayla Pierce is batting .305 and leads Rockhurst with four home runs and 17 runs batted in.  Maya Gallagher is also hitting .305 on the year and has six extra base hits among her 18 on the season.  Rockhurst has a 5.11 team earned run average; Anna Newcomer has made nine starts and has fanned 21 in 36 1/3 innings while posting a 5.01 ERA.

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL: The Cardinals bring a 4-16 overall record and 0-4 GLVC mark into the weekend, as they are scheduled to face Missouri-St. Louis Saturday prior to taking S&T Sunday.  William Jewell was blanked in both ends of its doubleheader Monday at Drury to open its conference schedule, then dropped a pair of games Wednesday to Southwest Baptist.

William Jewell has struggled at the plate in the early going as it has a team batting average of .191; Payton Totzke is the lone Cardinal hitting above the .300 mark at .327.  Amanda Chung has a team-high 10 runs batted in and is one of four Cardinals to have hit a home run this season, while Aliyah Santiago has a 1.56 earned run average in 31 1/3 innings in the circle.

ABOUT CENTRAL MISSOURI: The Jennies are 16-9 on the year heading into a pair of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheaders this weekend at Emporia State and Washburn.  UCM lost both games of a twinbill on Monday to Augustana that snapped a four-game winning streak.

Makenzie McAtee leads the Jennies with a .400 batting average and has belted four home runs and driven in 18 runs on the season.  Her four homers are tied with Ashlyn Cook for the team lead, while Cook has a team-high 23 RBI.  UCM has six regulars hitting better than .300 on the season and has a team batting average of .314.

Andi Siebeneck is 4-2 in the circle with a 2.85 earned run average and Paige Petefish is 5-1 with a  2.89 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings.  Petefish started the earlier meeting between the Miners and Jennies – getting a no-decision – in a game won by Central 5-3 on March 4 as the Jennies scored three times in the sixth.
