S&T hosts Cottey Saturday to open post-holiday slate

12/27/2023 10:00:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball team is looking for a fresh start as the post-holiday schedule begins Saturday afternoon with a visit from Cottey College to Gibson Arena.  Saturday's contest will get underway at 1 p.m.

Saturday's is the last non-conference contest of the season for the Miners, who will return to Great Lakes Valley Conference play Jan. 3 at Lewis.  S&T is looking to Saturday's tune-up for that game to build some momentum as they bring a 2-10 record into the contest after splitting two games in Puerto Rico prior to the holiday break.

The Miners defeated Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 60-53 behind a big game offensively from Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville), who had 23 points in the victory.  However, the Miners were unable to overcome a sizeable deficit the following day as they lost 73-68 to Puerto Rico-Bayamon, despite getting 16 points from Roberts and Bonnie Lew Ludlow (Indianapolis, IN/Covenant Christian).

Roberts leads the Miners in several offensive categories and also ranks among the GLVC leaders in them, including being third in scoring at 18 points per game, fourth in rebounding with 8.5 per contest, second in field goal percentage at 56.4 percent and fifth in blocked shots with 12 on the year.

Eryn Puett (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge) is also scoring in double figures with an average of 10.7 points per game as she is shooting 37 percent from three-point range with 17 treys on the season.  Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) leads the Miners with 24 three-pointers, 34 assists and 21 steals, the latter of which ranks seventh in the GLVC.

ABOUT COTTEY: The Comets, who are playing Saturday's game as an exhibition contest, are 8-4 on the season and had a four-game winning streak snapped in their most recent game when they lost 82-54 to Stephens.  The Comets have been stingy on the defensive end of the floor, holding their opponents to just 53.5 points per game and to a 33 percent shooting mark from the floor.

Sarah Hunt leads the Comets with an average of 14 points per game and Autumn Wallace is averaging 13.8 per contest while shooting 41.2 percent from three-point range.  Not only has Cottey held its opponents' shooting percentages down, it has also controlled the board as it is averaging seven more rebounds per game than its foes, led by Dally Coulter's 7.5 per game.
