ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team concluded its first semester schedule Friday by splitting a double dual meet with Missouri-St. Louis and Rockhurst in its home opener at the S&T Pool. The Miners defeated Rockhurst 116-95, but fell short to UMSL as it lost a narrow 107-105 decision.
S&T's individual wins came from
Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:52.74 and 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.63,
Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 47.08 seconds and
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton) by nearly two seconds in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:04.69.
The Miners' team of
Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East), Clancy,
Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium) and Wiedemeier also picked up a win in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:23.36, while S&T's 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North), Iden,
Kevin Williams (Houston, TX/Westside) and Walters was edged at the wall by Rockhurst, finishing second in 3:10.55.
Clancy took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.42 seconds as did Walters in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.88, while third place finishes were recorded by
Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:59.12 and Wiedemeier in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.96.
Baxter was fourth in the 50-freestyle in 21.95 seconds as was
Jordan Christensen (Coralville, IA/Iowa West) in the 200-breaststroke in 2:11.34.
S&T's second 400-medley relay team, consisting of
Cameron McCrary (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West),
Jay Mercer (Kansas City, MO/Whitefield Academy),
Greg Dreisewerd (Ellisville, MO/MICDS) and
JP McCann (Houston, TX/Westside), finished fourth in 3:32.99.
The Miners' next meet will take place on Monday, Jan. 15 when S&T hosts Quincy at the S&T Pool.
