S&T to face UMSL, UIndy to kick off GLVC slate

ROLLA, Mo. – Great Lakes Valley Conference play opens for Missouri S&T's women's basketball team over the Thanksgiving weekend as the Miners will host Missouri-St. Louis Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. contest at Gibson Arena.

It will be the first of two conference games over a three-day span to open the season for S&T, as it will head over to Indiana for a matchup Monday against Indianapolis at 5:30 p.m. (Eastern time) before returning home for its next four contests.

The Miners split two games last week, defeating Principia 84-53 before falling 77-72 Saturday to Missouri Baptist to fall to 1-3 on the year.  S&T got two big games from Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) last week, as she averaged 23.5 points, nine rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots in the two games.  Roberts had a career-high 24 points in the win over Principia, then followed that up with a 23-point showing against Missouri Baptist.

Roberts leads the Miners with averages of 16 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest, while shooting 52.9 percent from the field.  She also has seven blocked shots that is tied for the lead in the GLVC.   Eryn Puett (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge) is also averaging in double figures in the scoring column with an average of 10.5 points per game, while adding six rebounds per game and a field goal percentage mark of 48.5 percent.

Meanwhile, Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) leads the Miners with 10 assists and nine steals and also has a team-high eight three-point baskets heading into the weekend, while Bonnie Lew Ludlow (Indianapolis, IN/Covenant Christian) – fresh off a career-high 23-point effort on Saturday – has nine assists and five steals.

ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS: The Tritons come into Saturday's matchup at 3-1 and have won their last three games since an opening night loss to then third-ranked Grand Valley State.  UMSL also picked up a win last week over Principia, beating the Panthers 89-37 on Sunday behind 19 points from Jalysa Stokes, while also holding their foe to 33.3 percent shooting and forcing 30 turnovers.

Stokes leads the Tritons with an average of 16.7 points per game, while Amaya Blake is averaging 12 points and Morgan Ramthun is pulling down a team-leading 7.3 rebounds per contest.  UMSL is shooting 47.9 percent as a team and is making 35 percent of its three-point attempts, while holding its opponents to a 38.8 percent mark from the floor and 11-of-51 shooting from three-point range.

ABOUT INDIANAPOLIS: The Greyhounds, who eliminated the Miners from the GLVC Tournament last March, bring a 2-2 record into their GLVC opener Saturday at Upper Iowa before taking on the Miners Monday night.  UIndy knocked off Purdue Northwest 71-59 on Tuesday as Elana Wells poured in 23 points and Liv Becker added 17.

Becker is the reigning GLVC Player of the Week and leads the Greyhounds with an average of 19.8 points per game which ranks third in the conference; she has the top scoring game to date in the GLVC with her 34-point showing against St. Mary of the Woods last week.  Wells is sixth in the league in scoring with an average of 17.8 points per game and along with Becker, have accounted for 17 of UIndy's 22 three-point baskets.  Idalis Ortiz is the top rebounder with 5.3 per game.
