ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball team played its lone exhibition game of the 2023-24 season Wednesday and was on the short end of a 100-65 decision to Saint Louis University at Chaifetz Arena.
The Miners had one early lead in the game at 3-2 on a three-point basket by
Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy), but the Billikens – who won the Atlantic-10 Conference Tournament last season and were picked to finish third in the conference this year – rattled off 17 straight points to take control of the contest.
SLU shot 60 percent from the field in each of the first two periods, in which it led 30-16 after one quarter and 53-29 at the intermission. The Miners, meanwhile, shot 36.4 percent in the first half and committed 15 turnovers along the way. S&T did outrebound the Billikens 21-12 in the first half and had a 42-34 advantage on the boards in the game, led by
Katelynne Roberts' (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) nine boards.
Roberts was also one of two Miners to score in double figures as she finished with a team-high 11 points, while
Bonnie Lew Ludlow (Indianapolis, IN/Covenant Christian) finished the night with 10. S&T shot 48.3 percent in the second half of play.
Peyton Kennedy led the Billikens with a game-high 26 points as five SLU players scored in double figures.
The Miners open their regular season schedule with a pair of games in Lebanon, Ill., beginning with a matchup against 20
th-ranked Ferris State on Friday, Nov. 10.
