GLVC names S&T's Smith as Offensive Player of Week

10/9/2023 12:01:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T running back Cameren Smith (Claymont, DE/Concord), who recorded his sixth 100-yard rushing day of his Miner career and first game with three touchdowns, was named today as the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

Smith rushed for 124 yards on 21 carries – averaging nearly six yards per carry – and ran for the three scores in the Miners' 31-6 win over Upper Iowa Saturday at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. Smith scored his first touchdown on S&T's opening drive of the game on a one-yard run, capping a 10-play, 63-yard drive in which he carried the ball on eight of the plays – the Miners ran the ball on every play of that drive – and gained 57 of his yards in the process.  Smith had a 28-yard run during the drive to get the ball into the red zone.

Smith later added touchdown runs of 21 and five yards, giving him eight rushing touchdowns on the season which is tied for the most in the GLVC through six weeks of the season.  The eight touchdowns have all come in the Miners' last four contests.

The weekly award is the first for Smith in his S&T career and second for a Miner this season, as Tyler Gioia (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) landed the honor following the game against Wayne State (Mich.) in September.

Missouri S&T will play Southwest Baptist Saturday in a 1 p.m. contest in Bolivar, Mo.
