ROLLA, Mo. – A pair of set piece goals proved to be decisive Sunday afternoon as McKendree handed Missouri S&T's men's soccer team a 3-0 loss in a Great Lakes Valley Confernce contest at the S&T Soccer Field.
The Bearcats (6-1-4, 4-1-2 GLVC) got their first goal in the 25
th minute when Luis Edmondson scored on a direct free kick, as he hit a shot into the upper right corner past goalkeeper
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central). The score remained 1-0 until the 67
th minute, when Fred Nielsen got a head on Matteo Schubert's free kick in front of the net and scored to double the McKendree lead.
Jay Sangha scored the final goal for McKendree in the 90
th minute after he got loose on a breakaway.
S&T (3-7-2, 2-5-1 GLVC) did hold a 10-7 advantage in shots during the game and had four on goal, but all four were turned away by Bearcat goalkeeper …
Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) and
Sam Bresette (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) each had two shots for S&T and one on net.
Missouri S&T will face sixth-ranked Indianapolis Friday at 7:30 p.m. (Eastern time) in the Indiana state capitol to begin its final regular season road trip.
