Miners earn tie against eighth-ranked UIndy

ROLLA, Mo. – For the second straight season, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team earned a point against Indianapolis as it played the eighth-ranked Greyhounds to a scoreless tie Friday evening in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The Miners (3-7-3, 2-5-2 GLVC), who beat UIndy in the regular season finale last season, were outshot 16-4 by the unbeaten Greyhounds (8-0-3, 6-0-2 GLVC), but S&T goalkeeper Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) and the defensive unit was up to the task, as only five of the 16 shots reached Joseph and he turned away all five.

S&T was not credited for a shot on goal in the game that was played in a steady rain throughout the evening, but had a couple of chances in the latter stages when Jimmy Sanchez (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central) had a shot blocked by the UIndy defense and Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) hit a shot wide of the net in the 87th minute.

The Miners got three corner kick opportunities in the game to two for UIndy.

Missouri S&T will head to the Chicago suburbs for a Sunday matchup against Lewis in Romeoville, Ill.  Sunday's game will get underway at 2:30 p.m.
