ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's volleyball team looks for a bounce-back weekend as it returns home for two Great Lakes Valley Conference matches against Rockhurst and William Jewell at Gibson Arena. Friday's night's match will be Pink Night at Gibson Arena in honor of breast cancer awareness.
The Miners will face Rockhurst at 6 p.m. Friday and William Jewell on Saturday at 3 p.m. as they look to rebound from losses in their first two road matches in conference play last week. S&T dropped five-set decisions at Southwest Baptist and Drury, leaving it at 8-6 overall and 1-3 in league play coming into the weekend.
Despite holding both of its opponents to an attack percentage of under .200, S&T recorded an attack percentage of just .074 at SBU and .144 at Drury. The Miners come into the week hitting .204 as a team, which ranks in the middle of the pack in the GLVC, but does lead the conference in blocks with 139 coming into the week.
Madison Offerman (Herscher, IL/Herscher) leads the conference in blocks per set with 1.16 and has 43 on the season, while
Shelby Ply (Rolla, MO/Rolla) and
Madelyn Mason (Mount Horeb, WI/Mount Horeb) have 57 apiece to lead the team overall. Ply and Mason are also in the top 10 in the GLVC in that department.
Ply also has a team-leading .322 attack percentage for the season and has 129 kills, trailing only Mason with 192 and
Jordan Burton (Olathe, KS/Olathe South) with 167.
Annie Arand (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) leads the Miners with 324 assists, while
Meiko Pearson (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) leads S&T with 178 digs.
ABOUT ROCKHURST: The Hawks enter the weekend at 12-3 overall, but are 2-2 in the GLVC with the losses coming to nationally-ranked Missouri-St. Louis and Lewis. Rockhurst picked up a non-conference win Tuesday over Ottawa behind 10 kills from Ali Olson and nine from Tera Reberry, who is second on the team in kills with 152 behind Sarah Pyle's 156. Olson, meanwhile, has a .362 attack percentage and leads the Hawks with 58 blocks on the season. Rockhurst is second to the Miners in the GLVC in blocks as a team.
