ROLLA, Mo. – After picking up its second win in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday, Missouri S&T's women's soccer team returns to its home pitch this weekend for matchups against teams currently ahead of it in the conference standings.
The Miners will open their weekend with a Friday evening matchup against Missouri-St. Louis at 5 p.m., then returns to the field Sunday with a noon contest against McKendree. S&T enters the weekend in a three-way tie for eighth in the GLVC with seven points, one point in back of McKendree and three behind UMSL with its marks of 3-3-3 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play.
S&T was shut out by Rockhurst on Friday, but bounced back with a 3-1 Sunday at William Jewell. After the teams swapped goals in a span of roughly two minutes midway through the opening half – with
Lily Chung (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) scoring the S&T goal – the Miners took the lead on a goal by
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) late in the first half when she redirected a corner kick from
Andersyn Foster (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic).
Amelia Mundo (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) scored the third goal for the Miners in the second half for her team-leading fourth goal of the campaign; she also has an assist to share the team lead with nine points. Roberts also has nine points on her three goals and three assists, while Foster has a goal and two assists for four points.
Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) got the starting assignment in both contests and comes into this week's action with a 1.09 goals against average and 21 saves in 495 minutes.
ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS: The Tritons currently sit alone in fourth place in the standings with 10 points with a 3-1-1 conference record; UMSL is 4-2-3 overall on the year. Following a 2-1 loss to McKendree, the Tritons routed Indianapolis 4-0 last Friday before tying Lewis 1-1 on Sunday. Jada Holloman leads the Tritons with five goals and an assist for 11 points – she is tied for the GLVC lead in goals – while Emily Bloomfield and Jaycee Cotton have seven points apiece. Cotton has scored three times on the season and Bloomfield has two goals.
Grace Hastert has received the majority of the playing time in goal and owns a 0.80 goals against average and has made 19 saves in five contests.
ABOUT McKENDREE: The Bearcats are 6-1-2 on the season, 2-1-2 in the GLVC (eight points) and are unbeaten in their last four contests after losing to Rockhurst in their conference opener on Sept. 15. McKendree played to ties with Lewis and Indianapolis over the weekend, getting their only goal in the UIndy contest from leading scorer Anna Stiffler who shares the GLVC lead in goals with five. Stiffler also has three assists for a league-leading 13 points and Destiny Johnson has also scored three times on the season. In 765 minutes, Abby Tucker has recorded a 0.71 goals against average and 16 saves.
