ROLLA, Mo. – Despite spending a good deal of Friday's game with a possession edge and much of it on Upper Iowa's side of the field, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team was unable to get a shot into the net and settled for a scoreless tie with the Peacocks at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The tie, however, kept Upper Iowa from a shot getting into the top eight in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings as the Peacocks (7-6-3, 4-6-2 GLVC) finished the night one point in back of Drury for the eighth and final playoff berth, with their final game coming Sunday at Maryville.
Although Upper Iowa did have an 8-7 advantage in shots, the Miners had nine corner kick opportunities to three for the Peacocks on a misty evening. S&T's
Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) had the best scoring chances, as he had a shot that was stopped by UIU goalkeeper Archie Watts and another that went off the goal post in the second half.
S&T goalie
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) made three saves in goal for the Miners, including one when he stopped Wilmer Canales on a breakaway in the 87
th minute, as he recorded a shutout against the GLVC's highest scoring team entering play on Friday.
The Miners (3-9-4, 2-7-3 GLVC) will wrap up their season Sunday when they host Truman State at 2:30 p.m. at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. S&T's 11 seniors will be honored in a ceremony after the women's game with the Bulldogs – which starts at noon – concludes.
