Miners close on high note by shutting out Bulldogs

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team closed out its 2023 campaign Sunday on a high note, shutting out Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament qualifier Truman State 1-0 at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

Mike Banasik's (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) goal in the 54th minute was the difference, as he got a pass from Jimmy Sanchez (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central) and put a shot into the upper right corner past Truman goalkeeper Justin Olwig.  The Miner defense kept the Bulldogs (6-5-4, 5-4-4 GLVC) at bay after getting the lead, as Truman did not have a shot on goal in the second half and only one for the entire game.

S&T, who finished 4-9-4 overall and 3-7-3 in the GLVC, posted its sixth shutout of the season which is the most in a year since finishing the 2016 season with six clean sheets.

Truman outshot the Miners 12-9 in the game, but the Miners had six of their shots on goal and also had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.

Missouri S&T honored its 11 seniors prior to Sunday's game and all 11 were in the starting lineup, including goalkeeper Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) who had the one save in his 81-plus minutes on the field.  Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) played the remaining eight minutes of the contest.
