ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team battled 23
rd-ranked Maryville on relatively even terms for most of the afternoon on Sunday at the S&T Soccer Field, but was unable to get on the scoreboard as the Saints took a 3-0 decision from S&T in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
The game was scoreless over the first 24 minutes of play before Maryville's Tim Smith scored twice in an eight-minute span to give the Saints (9-2-4, 6-2-3 GLVC) all they would need offensively.  The first goal came in the 25
th minute, when Maryville goalkeeper Simon Madsen's punt was headed ahead by Jimmy Doherty to Smith, who put his shot just inside the far post.
His second tally in the 33
rd minute came when he got a ball near the sideline, cut towards the middle of the field and put a shot by S&T goalkeeper
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central).
Maryville's final goal came with just over a minute remaining in the game when Bryce Glisson scored on a give-and-go play near the S&T net.
The Miners (3-9-3, 2-7-2 GLVC) outshot the Saints 15-9 in the game, but only three of the 15 shots were on goal.  Joseph and
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano), who played the second half in goal for the Miners, combined for one save.
Missouri S&T will host Upper Iowa Friday at 7:30 p.m. to begin its final weekend of regular season play.
