ROLLA, Mo. - The Missouri S&T women's basketball team will travel to Rockhurst for a Thursday evening contest at 5:30 p.m. before hosting William Jewell Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Gibson Arena.
The Miners (10-9, 6-5 GLVC) enter the Great Lakes Valley Conference matchups coming off a 83-63 defeat at the hands of Quincy last Saturday. The Miners were led in scoring by
Alex Kerr (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy),
Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) and
Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) with 11 points apiece.
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) and
Eryn Puett (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge) added eight points each and Finley also had a team-high three steals. Kerr and Davis both hauled in a team-high eight rebounds as S&T outscored Quincy in the paint 30-22.
Kerr leads S&T in scoring and rebounding as she is averaging 14.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest and has also blocked 24 shots. Her scoring average ranks 10th in the GLVC and she is second in the conference in rebounding and is tied for the league lead in blocks.
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) is also in double figures with her average of 12.7 points per game with a 40 percent shooting mark from the field and 86.4 percent success rate from the charity stripe. Rodriguez's scoring average ranks 19th in the GLVC among all players.
In GLVC play,
Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) and
Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) both are averaging 10.3 points per game as both players are shooting over 38 percent from beyond the arc. Keys leads S&T with a team-high 20 made three-point field goals in conference play and 29 overall. As a team, the Miners rank second in the GLVC in defensive rebounds an average of 27.5 per game and are holding their opponents to 40 percent shooting from the field.
ABOUT ROCKHURST:
The Hawks (8-10, 3-7 GLVC) enter this matchup coming off a 69-59 defeat at Southwest Baptist last Thursday evening. Rockhurst was led in scoring by Keegan Sullivan with 15 points while shooting two-of-five from beyond the arc. Macie Conway contributed 12 points and Molly Hummel added 10 as the latter also secured a team-high nine rebounds.
Rockhurst is led in scoring by Sullivan as she is averaging 16.9 points per game and securing 6.5 rebounds a game. Hummel enters this contest averaging 10.1 points per game while averaging a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game.
As a team, Rockhurst ranks second in a plethora of categories including holding opponents to 39.3 percent shooting and averaging 38.7 rebounds per game. The Hawks rank just above the Miners in blocked shots with 52 compared to S&T's 50.
ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL:
The Cardinals (4-17, 2-9 GLVC) will host Missouri-St. Louis Thursday evening before their visit to Gibson Arena Saturday. In their last GLVC matchup, Southwest Baptist defeated William Jewell 68-54, with Bree Shannon leading the Cardinals with 13 points. Chloe Frank, the only other player in double figures for the Cardinals, added 11 points while netting three-of-eight attempts from behind the arc.
Prior to Thursday's tipoff against UMSL, Emree Zars leads the Cardinals in scoring as she is averaging 10 points per game while also pulling down 6.3 rebounds per game. Ayden Shannon ranks second in scoring with an average of 9.6 points per game while dishing out a team-high 33 assists.
The matchup against William Jewell will begin a four-game homestand for the Miners.
