ROLLA, Mo. - The Missouri S&T men's volleyball team will host Kentucky State for its inaugural home opener Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Gibson Arena.
The Miners (0-2) faced two top-15 programs in Loyola Chicago and Lewis where S&T battled but ultimately came up short in both matches to lose in straight sets.
After two matches, S&T is led by
Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) with 13 kills as he is averaging 2.17 kills per set.
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) has 12 kills and eight service aces in the first two matches, while
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) has added nine kills while averaging 2.08 points per set. As a team, S&T is averaging 7.8 kills per set.
Kentucky State:
The Thorobreds (0-0) will open their 2023 season at Maryville Friday evening before coming to Gibson Arena Saturday afternoon.
Kentucky State enters this season coming off a 3-16 overall record which included a 2-8 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record. The Thorobreds were knocked out of the SIAC tournament in straight sets to Benedict College and Fort Valley State.
This season, Kentucky State returns its top outside hitter in Jordan Howard as he averaged 2.10 kills per set while recording 117.5 total points a season ago. Kade Andruski finished the 2022 campaign with 173 assists while averaging 4.02 assists per set.
