TOPEKA, Kan. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team battled a previously undefeated Washburn team Sunday afternoon to a scoreless tie, as the Miners held a team that had scored 10 goals in its first three contests of the year without a tally and to only two shots on net.
Despite being outshot 10-4 over the 90 minutes of play, the Miners (0-1-1) held the Ichabods (3-0-1) to only two shots that reached goalkeeper
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) as she recorded her first shutout of the season. Washburn had one shot on goal in each half, while the Miners had one on net from
Olivia Olson (Maryville, IL/Edwardsville) in the 79
th minute of play.
Johnson preserved the shutout for S&T by making a key stop on an attempt by Khloe Schuckman in the 82
nd minute. Washburn did have 13 corner kick opportunities in the match against two for the Miners.
Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva) had two of the other three shots for the Miners, while the fourth came from
Natalia Kaminski (Wesley Chapel, FL/Wiregrass Ranch).
Missouri S&T will play its final non-conference game of the season against a Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent on Friday, as the Miners host McKendree in a 5:30 p.m. in-region game in Rolla. S&T begins GLVC play on Sept. 11 at Illinois Springfield.
