KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rockhurst got a goal early in the second half and was able to hold on for a 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory on Friday evening.
After a scoreless first half that was played on relatively even terms, the Hawks (4-0-2, 3-0 GLVC) broke on top in the 51
st minute when they were awarded a penalty kick that was converted by Kaden Cripe for what turned out to be the only goal of the contest.
S&T outshot Rockhurst 11-7 in the game and 7-4 in the second half, while also getting seven corner kicks in the game. The Miners (1-4-2, 0-2-2 GLVC) had four corner kick opportunities in succession with under three minutes remaining and after the fourth,
S&T had another corner kick try in the final minute, but that chance with a shot that was hit just wide by
Jimmy Sanchez (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central). The Miners got another corner kick try in the final minute, but
Evan Birsinger's (Friendswood, TX/Friendswood) shot was also wide of the net.
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) finished with three saves in goal for the Miners, who will face William Jewell Sunday in a 2:30 p.m. match in Liberty, Mo.
