9/21/2022 10:00:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team will head to the Kansas City area for a pair of matches this weekend as it will seek to break into the win column for the first time in the 2022 campaign.

The Miners will play Rockhurst in Kansas City in a 5 p.m. match on Friday evening, before heading up the road to Liberty, Mo., for a noon contest on Sunday against William Jewell.  The Miners come into the week with a record of 0-4-2 and are 0-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after dropping decisions of 2-0 to Truman State and 2-1 to Quincy over the past weekend.

Despite outshooting Truman 11-5 in Friday's game, the Bulldogs scored twice in the first half and held the Miners off the scoreboard the rest of the way.  S&T did, however, take the initial lead in Sunday's match at Quincy on a goal by Lauren Bulcroft (Claremore, OK/Verdigris) in the 59th minute, but Quincy tied the game just 18 seconds later and got the winning goal in the 86th minute.

Bulcroft and Andersyn Foster (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) have the goals for the Miners this season, while Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) has played all 540 minutes in goal and owns a 1.83 goals against average.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: Rockhurst has opened its GLVC season with wins over William Jewell and Southwest Baptist and will be playing its home opener on Friday, bringing an overall mark of 3-1-2 into the game.  The Hawks got out to a 3-0 lead on Friday at Southwest Baptist and held off a second half rally by SBU, getting a late goal from Anna Lantz to help her win GLVC Player of the Week honors.

Lantz is one of three Hawks with two goals on the season and added has an assist to share the team scoring lead with Olivia Schwarzen.  Gabby Hennessey has also scored twice and that trio has accounted for six of Rockhurst's eight goals this season.  Alyssa Kerperien has a 0.67 goals against average in goal on the campaign.

William Jewell brings a 1-5-1 overall record into play this weekend and is 0-2-1 in the GLVC after playing to a 3-3 tie Sunday with SBU.  The three-goal outing – two of them coming from Riley Frasure-Smith – snapped a three-game scoreless streak for the Cardinals.

Corrine Hughes has scored a GLVC-high five goals this season and also leads the league with 11 points.  However, the Cardinals have allowed a league-high 25 goals in their first seven contests as goalkeepers Katie Wagenheim and Taylor Thompson have made 50 saves between them.
