8/28/2022 3:39:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team built a 3-0 lead in the first half Sunday afternoon in its home opener against Missouri Southern at Allgood-Bailey Stadium, but weather that came into the area during the halftime intermission led to two weather delays and ultimately a suspension of play just over 10 minutes into the second half.

The completion of the contest has not been rescheduled at this time.

S&T scored all three of its goals in the first half in a span of just over 15 minutes, beginning with one from Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva) off an assist from Ally Hasken (Freeport, IL/Freeport) in the 26th minute of play.  Ava Hoenes (Columbia, MO/Hickman) scored the other two goals for the Miners, tallying one on a corner kick that slipped through MSSU goalkeeper Riley Laver in the 33rd minute and another in the 41st minute off an assist from Lauren Bulcroft (Claremore, OK/Verdigris).

Each team had seven shots in the first half and the Miners had all three shots that were taken when play resumed after the first delay that lasted an hour.  Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) made four saves in goal for S&T.

The Miners will play an exhibition game Friday at Lindenwood beginning at 7 p.m., then takes on Washburn next Sunday in Topeka, Kan., in a 1 p.m. game.
