ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T has completed its coaching staff for the 2022 season with the addition of two new coaches to the staff and the elevation of a third into a full-time position on
Andy Ball's staff.
Desmond Noird, who most recently served as an assistant coach at Walsh University and Missouri State University, has joined the staff as the team's wide receivers coach, while Owen Jordan, who previously coached on the staff at Kansas State, will take over as the defensive backs coach at S&T.
In addition,
Jake Jiannoni, who was on the S&T staff last fall, has been moved up to a full-time position and will coach the linebackers in the upcoming year.
Noird, who takes over the position previously held by Damien Ross, was on the Walsh staff last season as the Cavaliers' wide receivers coach after working as a quality control coach on the offensive side of the ball at Missouri State. He served in the quality control role for two seasons at Missouri State, first under Dave Steckel in 2019 and then under Bobby Petrino during the 2020-21 season when the Bears played games in both semesters and made the NCAA Division I Football Championship Series playoffs.
A native of Lithonia, Ga., Noird played collegiately at Florida A&M for four seasons, where he accumulated 36 receptions for 485 and five touchdowns. His top season came as a sophomore in the 2015 campaign, where he had 15 catches for 157 and two touchdowns, but as a junior, he averaged 23.1 yards on his eight receptions and had two touchdown catches.
Jordan has spent the last three seasons at Kansas State coaching the quarterbacks – including 2022 NFL draft pick Skylar Thompson – and wide receivers. He got his start in coaching at the University of Minnesota as a quality control assistant during the 2015 season where he did the scouting on the opposing teams; Minnesota won the Quick Lane Bowl that season by defeating Central Michigan.
Jordan, a native of Columbus, Kan., who is filling the position previously held by DJ Bland, played college football as a quarterback at Fort Scott Community College and then at Lincoln University, where he set single season records with 186 completions and 330 passing attempts as a senior. He threw for 3,925 career yards and 24 touchdowns for the Blue Tigers.
Jiannoni, who will coach the linebackers, played college football at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif., and earned all-conference honors as a linebacker. He transferred from there to Southeastern Louisiana University for his final two seasons, where he served as a team captain. He earned All-Southland Conference honors following the 2018 season under head coach Ron Roberts at the NCAA Division I FCS level.
Originally from Palm Springs, Calif., Jiannoni earned his bachelor's degree in General Studies from SLU and is currently completing work on his master's degree in Educational Administration. Jake began his coaching career two seasons ago at Missouri Valley College as the team's outside linebacker coach.
