ROLLA, Mo. – Nine athletic teams representing Missouri S&T are among the 176 across the Great Lakes Valley Conference that are recipients of the conference's Team Academic Awards for the recently completed 2021-22 season.
S&T was one of 12 full-time GLVC institutions to have at least nine teams that finished the academic year with a grade point average of 3.30 or better. The Miners' list includes five women's teams, including three that had a team grade point average for the academic year that exceeded 3.60.
The women's track & field team finished with the highest mark among S&T's athletic teams with a 3.68 grade point average – making it one of nine track programs in the GLVC to earn the honor – while the women's basketball team recorded a team mark of 3.65 and the women's cross country squad finished at 3.63. The women's basketball team was one of 13 to be honored, while the cross country team, named for the 13
th consecutive year, was among 13 such honorees.
The other women's teams to earn the award were the volleyball and soccer squads. The volleyball team has also earned the Team Academic Award in all 13 seasons it has been presented, while the soccer team was named for the sixth straight year.
The highest ranked men's squad among the four honored was the Miner swimming team that recorded a team grade point average of 3.59 which put that team on the list for the fourth consecutive year. The baseball team was also honored for the fourth year in a row, while the men's cross country team was named for the fifth time and men's track & field squad – winners of the GLVC outdoor championship – earned its second Team Academic honor.
A total of 122 women's teams and 54 men's programs made up the 176 teams to earn the team academic honor. Lindenwood led the GLVC with 17 sports to earn the team award.
