ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lindenwood held Missouri S&T's offense in check Saturday afternoon as it took both games of the Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader from the Miners, winning by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. The Miners fell to 18-16 overall and 6-6 in the GLVC.
Game 1: Lindenwood 6, Miners 0
The Lions (26-4, 13-1 GLVC) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when Irelynn West tripled with one out in the fourth, then tacked another run on before the inning ended on Lauren Pelton's RBI single off S&T starting pitcher
Bryn Wooldridge (Salisbury, Mo./Salisbury). Lindenwood would score its other three runs off reliever
Julia Kanoy (Hamilton, Mo./Penney), scoring twice in the fifth and once more in the sixth.
The big story of game one was the pitching of Lindenwood's Amanda Weyh, who carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before
Hannah Antzoulatos (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) broke it up with a leadoff single to left. Weyh – whose earned run average entering the game was the third-lowest in NCAA Division II at 0.62 – struck out five Miners along the way to improve to 15-0.
Wooldridge dropped to 10-6 as she was tagged with the game one loss.
Game 2: Lindenwood 6, Miners 1
S&T got on the scoreboard first in the nightcap as Wooldridge drew a one-out walk, then
Emma Vaughn (Pevely, Mo./Herculaneum) reached on an error while trying to bunt her over. Wooldridge ended up at third after the error and came into score when
Taylor Caton (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) reached on a fielder's choice.
Lindenwood, however, answered back in the fourth to take the lead. Whitney Wendel reached on an infield single to open the inning, before West reached on an error with one out and Nicole Henson drew a walk to load the bases. Pelton followed with a double into the corner in left to clear the bases and put the Lions in front.
The Lions extended their lead with three more runs in the sixth, one scoring on an error and the other two following a double by Wendel.
The Miners were outhit 8-2 in the second game, as
Elizabeth Viox (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) and
Baylee Jobson (Marceline, Mo./Marceline RV) had the hits for the Miners.
Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) took the loss for S&T.
Missouri S&T will remain in the St. Louis area to face Maryville in a doubleheader Sunday starting at noon.
