Miners Seek Return to Winning Ways Against Saints

2/3/2022 12:00:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – Having dropped their last two games after winning three of their previous four contests, the Missouri S&T women's basketball team will look to return to form Saturday afternoon with their lone matchup of the season against Maryville and only action of the week following the postponement of Thursday night's game at Lindenwood due to inclement weather.

The Miners (7-11, 4-8) threw everything they had at #4 Drury last time out on Saturday but couldn't quite complete the upset attempt, falling short 71-59. Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) posted her second double-double of the season and recorded 13 points with 11 rebounds while Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) also went for 13 against the Panthers. Rodriguez continues to lead the team in scoring with an average of 14.5 PPG while Kerr is putting up 12.3 PPG and pulling down 6.8 RPG. Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) and Rodriguez are tied for the team lead with 36 assists each while Marta Durk's (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) 30 steals are tops on the club. One of the best shot blocking teams in the GLVC this season, freshman Kateylnne Roberts leads the conference with 31 rejections while Kerr has amassed 18 in 13 games played. Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) leads the team in three-point percentage at .375 while Rodriguez and Durk have connected on 28 and 24 shots from beyond the arc this season respectively.

Maryville (7-10, 3-8) has dropped three-straight games to Drury, SBU and Missouri-St. Louis following a win over William Jewell back on January 22. Antoinette Mussorici leads MU in scoring with 14.5 PPG and is joined in double figures by Taylor Kirby with 10.3 PPG. Kirby also happens to be the team's leading rebounder with 5.2 RPG and shot blocker with nine, while shooting .545 from the field and .878 at the free throw line. Mussorici's 40 assists lead the team as she is one of six Saints with 20 or more dimes on the season. She also leads the team with 19 steals as one of five players with 15 or more in that category this year. Hunter Stidham is the leading three-point shooter for Maryville with 26 makes from deep and connecting on a .361 clip and is the only player with more than 20 3s on the season, while six other players have at least 10 makes from deep.

The Saints lead the all-time series 13-10 and snapped a two game losing streak in the series last season with a 83-71 win in St. Louis in November. The Miners picked up a 78-70 win in Rolla in February to split the season series behind double-figures outings from Keys, Kerr and Rodriguez.
