Miners to host Missouri Baptist Monday morning

ROLLA, Mo. - The Missouri S&T women's basketball team will host the Spartans of Missouri Baptist for a non-conference matchup on Monday at 11:30 a.m. for Education Day in Gibson Arena. 
 
The Miners (5-5, 3-1 GLVC) enter this contest coming off an 83-69 victory over Illinois Springfield, where Alex Kerr (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) recorded her 25th career double-double to lead all S&T players with 28 points while hauling down 12 rebounds. Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) contributed 17 points while dishing out a team-high seven assists and Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) concluded the S&T double-figure scorers with 13 points as she went five-of-10 from the field.
 
Kerr is leading the Miners in three statistical categories which includes scoring at 13.2 points per game, rebounding with 9.1 per game and blocks with 16; she is averaging a double-double in conference games with mark of 16 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Kerr currently ranks first in the GLVC with those 16 blocked shots and is second in rebounding, while also ranking fifth in field goal percentage at 52.8 percent in over 29 minutes per game.
 
Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) is averaging 12.8 points per game which ranks 15th in the GLVC among scoring averages. Rodriguez is also shooting 41.1 percent from the field which ranks 11th among all GLVC players. 

Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) is scoring 9.6 points per game and is second to Rodriguez on the team in steals with 10, while Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) is averaging 7.7 points per game -- 11 per game in S&T's four GLVC contests -- while averaging 6.6 rebounds per game that ranks second among the Miners. Davis leads S&T with 54 attempts from the free throw line where she has knocked down 42 for a completion rate of 77.8 percent which places eighth in the GLVC and has also dished out a team-leading 23 assists.  
 
As a team, S&T ranks first in the GLVC as it has held its opponents to a 38.4 percent shooting mark from the field. The Miners also rank second in the GLVC with 28 blocks, trailing Rockhurst by three for first place. 
 
The Spartans (7-2, 4-0 AMC) enter this weekend on a five-game winning streak heading into a game Saturday with Columbia College. MBU, who will be playing Monday's game as an exhibition contest, has suffered its only losses on the road to Culver-Stockton and Central Methodist.

Tionne Taylor leads the Spartans in scoring with an average of 17.4 points per game, while Bryce Dowell has averaged 13.2 per game.

The Miners have won the last five decisions against the Spartans and are 2-0 this season in Gibson Arena.  After Monday's game, the Miners will pause action for 11 days before hosting Principia on Dec. 30 for a non-conference matchup with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m. in Gibson Arena.
