PITTSBURG, Kan. – A school record and two NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks highlighted the first full day of competition for the Missouri S&T track & field teams as they took part in the Crimson & Gold Invitational at Pittsburg State University.
Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) reached his provisional mark while placing second in the weight throw with a mark of 67-9 that also broke the S&T school record in the event. Luebbert's record throw came in the fourth round as he became the first Miner ever with a throw of over 20 meters.
Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) also reached a provisional mark in the shot put with a mark of 55-11 that also allowed him to finish third.
Luebbert added a seventh place showing in the shot put with a mark of 51-8½, while
Paulvin Horton (Raleigh, NC/Garner) was eighth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-3¼ as did
Noah Richardson (Hillsboro, MO/Grandview) in the invitational triple jump with a leap of 43-3¾.
Kyle Burke (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) placed 11
th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.53 seconds and
Elliott Bryant (Lexington, KY/Tates Creek) was 13
th in the 60-meter dash in 6.87 seconds. Richardson added a 13
th place showing in the long jump with a mark of 20-1¾, while Swadley also finished 14
th in the weight throw with a mark of 52-feet.
Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves) placed 15
th in the mile in 4:26.98.
The Miners also had three multi-event competitors in the heptathlon that concluded Saturday, with
Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) having the highest finish of 15
th with 4,507 points.
Olivia Henkel (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) had the top finish among the women as she recorded a fourth place showing in the high jump as she cleared 5-3¾.
Sydney Stephens (Plattsburg, MO/Plattsburg) placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 39-10 as did
Kassandra Hayes (Rolla, MO/Rolla) in the high jump at 5-0½, while
Annmarie Tyson (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) cleared 5-2 ½ to finish 10
th in the invitational high jump.
Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva) took 14
th in the pole vault with a clearance of 10-11 and
Emma Puetz (Rolla, MO/Rolla) finished just outside the top 15 in the mile with a time of 5:24.18.
Missouri S&T's next competition will take place after the start of the new calendar year, when it will take part in the Central Missouri Invitational on Jan. 20.
