ROLLA, Mo. – After splitting their two non—conference games to open the fall 2021 season, the Missouri S&T women's soccer team kicks off Great Lakes Valley Conference action Sunday afternoon opposite Quincy University at Legends Field Sunday at 12 PM.
The Miners (1-1-0) began the season with a 1-0 win over Saint Martin's in St. Louis on Friday before falling in overtime on a penalty kick to reigning GLVC Champion McKendree in a non-conference affair by a score of 3-2.
S&T's three goals have come from three different players this season, as
Ally Hasken (Freeport, IL/Freeport) netted the go-ahead goal in the opener, while Syndey Gratz and newcomer
Paige VanDaele (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) were responsible for the scoring Sunday.
Melanie Kulig (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) has the lone Miner assist through two matches, while
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) and
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, MO/Parkway South) have split time in goal this season, each starting once and posting five saves to their ledgers against nine and 13 shots respectively.
The Hawks (1-1-0) also picked up a 1-0 in their season opener, defeating Davenport late on a Panthers' own goal on the road before dropping a 2-1 decision to Saginaw Valley State on Sunday to wrap up their Michigan trip. Lauren Crane has scored the Hawk's only offensive goal this season and Morgan Evans has an assist on the season. Olivia Kindt has been the starter in goal this season and has logged 130 minutes and allowed just one goal while making six saves on 11 shots faced. Luisa Weinhaendler has also seen time between the pipes for Quincy, recording a save in just under 50 minutes of action.
Last season, the Miners and Hawks played to a 2-2 draw at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. Both teams scored their goals in the first 45 minutes, but were unable to find the net through the second half and two overtime periods.
