ROLLA, Mo. – For the second week in a row, the Missouri S&T women's soccer team saw no shortage of offense on a Friday night, as the Miners (3-2-1, 2-1-1) had no trouble find the back of the net Friday evening at Allgood-Bailey Stadium, scoring four times to cruise to their second Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the season over Southwest Baptist (1-3-1, 1-2-0).
Southwest Baptist looked to strike right away, testing
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, MO/Parkway South) with a shot in the first minute of action but the fifth-year senior stood firm and recorded the save on what ended up being one of SBU's only good looks at goal in the evening.
Lily Chung (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) got the party going early, as in the 11th minute she scored her third goal of the season on a ball played ahead from
Allison Cole (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield) to take the early lead.
Fellow Francis Howell product
Paige VanDaele (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) got in on the action shortly after subbing into the game, as in the 31st minute, she blasted a shot past the SBU keeper for her second goal of the season to make it 2-0, a score that would hold into the intermission.
S&T outshot the Bearcats 6-1 over the opening 45 minutes and had an 8-2 edge in corner kick opportunities.
The Miners scoring continued in the second half, as VanDaele struck paydirt for the second time in the game in the 78th minute, taking advantage of a great ball from
Lexi Frederick (Warrenton, MO/Warrenton) to make it 3-0 in favor of the home team.
With things looking well in hand as the match wound down,
Lauren Bulcroft (Claremore, OK/Verdigris) took advantage of some breaks in the Bearcats' defense to score her first goal of the season in the final 30 seconds of action to make it 4-0 Missouri S&T to conclude the evening.
The Miners outshot SBU 9-4 in the game and finished with a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks. Steins finished the night with two saves and posted her second straight shutout.
The Miners wrap up their three-game homestand Sunday at the Missouri S&T Soccer Field, welcoming Rockhurst to town for a 12 P.M. contest.
