Miners' Michel, Niboh land GLVC Player of the Week honors

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T has its first recipients of the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Player of the Week award in football, as wide receiver Breon Michel (Colorado Springs, CO/Vista Ridge) and running back Gideon Niboh (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) earned two of the three league honors for this week.

Michel was selected as the GLVC's Offensive Player of the Week after a record-setting day in the Miners' 51-45 overtime win over Wayne State (Mich.) on Saturday at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.  He caught seven passes for a school record 234 yards and three touchdowns in the game; he averaged 33.4 yards per catch in the game.

Michel's three scores covered 26, 54 and 70 yards as he became just the fourth player in program history to record a 200-yard receiving game and the 234 yards are the third-most in a game in GLVC history.  He has seven touchdown receptions on the year, making him the first Miner in history with seven scoring catches in the first three games of a season.

Niboh was named as Special Teams Player of the Week as he returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown in Saturday's win.  His touchdown – which was the third scored in a span of 25 seconds in the first quarter – came right after Wayne State had tied the game on a 75-yard touchdown pass.

The GLVC's third weekly for the top defensive player was given to Lindenwood linebacker Drew Seers.

The Miners improved to 2-1 on the season with the victory and will close out their non-conference schedule Saturday when they take on Hillsdale in Hillsdale, Mich.
