Miners Close Out Regular Season at Home Against Drury, Rockhurst

ROLLA, MO- After a week off from play, the Miners (11-5, 11-5 GLVC) will play their final games of the regular season when they welcome the Panthers of Drury University and the Hawks of Rockhurst University to Gibson Arena this Thursday and Friday.

S&T is currently on a three-game winning streak that consists of 3-0 sweeps of Maryville, William Jewell, and Southwest Baptist.

For the season, Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) and Jordan Burton (Olathe, Kansas/Olathe South Senior High) have been the power hitters for the Miners with 196 and 191 kills, respectively, while Avery Reed (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) has been a big factor S&T with 127 kills and 107 digs. Along with them, Shelby Ply (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) and Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) have held down the middle for the Miners with 159 combined kills while both are ranked in the top-20 in the conference in blocks/set and total blocks.

While Ply and O'Boyle have held down the defense at the net, Meiko Pearson (Overland Park, Kansas/Blue Valley Northwest) has been the biggest asset in the back row for the Miners. Pearson has recorded 218 digs and is currently ranked 13th in the conference in digs/set and 10th in total digs.

Hannah Merjil (Bakersfield, CA/Garces Memorial) has taken over at the setter's position with 482 assists in 15 matches while averaging 8.17 assists/set this season. Merjil currently ranks 8th in assists per set in the GLVC and 5th in the league in total assists. Along with her assists stat line, Merjil has added in 29 kills, 17 service aces, 103 digs, and recorded 24.0 blocks.

 Drury (8-8, 8-8 GLVC) is coming off a 3-2 loss to Rockhurst (11-6, 11-6 GLVC). Despite the Panthers putting down 70 kills in the match, the 24 errors committed proved to be their downfall. DU was held to just 0.059 hitting in the fifth set after five errors that led to the Hawks taking the 15-9 final set.

For Drury, Chloe Rear had led the team with 139 kills while Taylor Forth has added in 105. Gabby Birmingham has split time in the setter's position with Rear while they have combined for 413 of the Panther's assists this season.

On the defensive side, Kayla Allison has picked up a team-best 204 digs while Forth and Makina Wratten are leading the charge of blocks at the net with a combined 85.0 blocks.

Earlier this season when the Panthers and Miners met, Drury took the 3-1 season opening win after errors threatened the Miners.

For Rockhurst, the duo of Audrey Arand and Morgan Conner have excelled with 146 and 143 kills, respectively, whil4e Averi Vomastic and Kenzie Hines have both recorded over 100 kills this season. Dani Prusha and Gabbie Inman have been the go-to's for the Hawks in setting with a combined 641 assists between them.

The Miners and Hawks met earlier this season and S&T shocked the GLVC with the 3-1 win over then 10th ranked Rockhurst.

After splitting the first two sets, the Miners would hold Rockhurst to a combined 0.134 hitting in the final two sets while putting down 28 kills and recording four service aces to the take 25-14 and 25-18 set wins.
